Project Outline

Artist Selection & Collaboration: We partnered with international artist Iker Muro to deliver a transformative mural at the Borella Road underpass. The project was designed as a strategic intervention, utilising Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles to reclaim a neglected transit corridor. Muro was commissioned to develop a site-specific design that integrates his signature geometric abstraction with the functional realities of the local landscape. By drawing inspiration from the local landscape, Muro created a visual language that turns a utilitarian barrier into a point of pride and curiosity.

Project Management & Delivery: Our team managed all logistical aspects of this complex underpass project, including stakeholder coordination with Albury City Council, site safety and traffic management, and the procurement of high-performance materials suitable for the demanding environmental conditions of an underpass. We facilitated a collaborative design process that balanced artistic expression with CPTED objectives, ensuring the final work enhanced natural surveillance, established territorial reinforcement, and improved the perceived safety of the space for all users.

Artistic Delivery & Legacy: The completed mural is more than a decorative feature; it is an active deterrent to anti-social behaviour through design. By transforming a dimly lit, overlooked underpass into a vibrant, high-contrast geometric landmark, the work encourages positive pedestrian flow and community ownership. It turns a previously daunting transit route into a place of discovery and visual interest. Beyond the immediate aesthetic impact, the project successfully demonstrates how art can function as a vital tool for urban safety, establishing the site as a well-maintained, welcoming, and secure connection point for the Albury community.
